Woman accuses ‘husband’ of cheating

A physically handicapped woman (28) has filed a case of rape against a man who allegedly married her at a temple and now claims to have lost his memory.

On coming to know that the suspect, Amit Mishra (28), a resident of Salimpur in Uttar Pradesh (UP), is going to marry again, the victim approached the Mundhwa police on Friday.

The victim lost her left foot seven years ago in a railway accident in Nagpur. She came to Pune for a course in 2008.

The victim is undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital. She told DNA, “In  search of a job, I went to a recruitment agency where Amit worked and that’s how our relationship developed. He knew I am staying alone in the city. I lost my father.”

“On November 22, 2010, on his birthday he took me to a temple in Keshavnagar and recited the marriage mantras and declared me his wife. He took me to a hotel and mixed something in my soft drink. He and raped me. When I became conscious, he said it is not rape as we were married.”

She added, “He had an accident and claimed to have lost his memory. In December 2011, he said he wanted to marry a woman in UP and gave me her number. But she abused me and told me to stop blackmailing Amit.”

Devidas Patil, senior inspector told DNA, “ We will arrest the suspect soon. The suspect’s father is not accepting the victim because she is handicapped.”
