Art lovers visiting Hirji Jehangir Art Gallery in Kala Ghoda this week should prepare to be transported to a life in the hills where winding roads, charming bungalows, busy bazaars and period architecture abound.

Call of the Hills, a painting exhibition conceptualised by Milind V Sathe and brought to life by Mumbai-based artist Chitra Vaidya, will be on display till March 19. “Chitra revisits and relives the mystique of the hills through her paintings and gives you a taste of that old world charm,” said Sathe who is a trustee of the Art India Foundation.

Vaidya feels that each season has its own allure. “The romance of these hill stations lingers on in people's memories,” she said. Her art is a visual documentation of the architecture of a bygone era and the scenic splendour of hilly landscapes.

“This will be a long-term art project and this is just the first exhibition,” added Vaidya, who is from the illustrious Wakankar family. “I would love to carry forward the rich legacy of my ancestors, one of whom (Vishnu S Wakankar) is best known for his widely acclaimed work relating to discovery and research on the cave art at Bhimbetka; whereas the other (LS Wakankar) was known for his pioneering work in Indian scripts,” she said.
