The University of Pune (UoP) has goofed up by issuing faulty mark-sheets to 176 final-year students of Master of Arts in Mass Communication and Journalism, 2011. These students are from different colleges of Pune and Nashik.

When the university realised its folly, it withdrew the mark-sheets and issued fresh ones, following which marks of the majority of the students changed, affecting their ranks and divisions.

This goof-up by the UoP has left the affected students bewildered. The ranks and division of the students too have been largely affected due to the premature issuing of mark-sheets.

The controller of examinations of UoP, S Ahire, blamed colleges for the faux pas. "The viva marks of the students submitted to us by the colleges were incorrect," he argued, adding that the UoP did not receive the marks for viva from Nashik colleges when the initial mark-sheets were distributed.

The college authorities in Pune denied there were was any mistake on their part. "How can the UoP issue mark-sheets when they did not receive the viva marks from the Nashik colleges," the authorities of different colleges in Pune questioned.

The authorities of Marathwada Mitra Mandal College of Commerce (MMMC) and Garware College denied any slip-up at their ends. "The mistake has been from the UoP's end. The varsity has failed to tabulate the mark-sheets properly and that led to the problem," they said.

"I secured 60% in the first mark-sheet. But in the new mark-sheet, there was a reduction of 13 marks. My first division got affected due to poor management by the university,' said Anuj Ismail, a student of MMCC.

Apurva Jadhav, who secured 1,139 out of 1,600 and topped the university in the exam, lost three marks in the revised mark-sheet, affecting her rank.

Jadhav slipped to the third position after the new mark-sheets were issued.
