She began her working life as a model, appeared in a few TV serials, and is now on the ‘most wanted’ list of the anti-narcotics cell (ANC) of the Mumbai police.

‘Tashu’, as she is known in the underworld, is one of the leading suppliers of cocaine and counts some of Mumbai’s rich and famous among her clients.

Now in her late twenties, Tashu was a struggling model and actress some years ago. That was when she got to know the film and television actors and actresses who went on to become her customers.

She also supplies cocaine to businessmen from Mumbai and Delhi through carriers working for her in the city, said Sunil Paraskar, deputy commissioner of police, ANC.

Paraskar’s cell has now set up three special units to track down and nab the woman. “We have arrested a few people who worked for Tashu,” said Paraskar. “She operates from Delhi and was recently traced in Pune.”

Tashu’s mother was arrested in 2008 while delivering cocaine to a client in Gorai. It is believed that the ex-model carries out her operations in Mumbai with the help of her relatives. At least seven of them are believed to work for her.

“We have been trying to nab her for the past few months,” Paraskar said. “Hence, special teams have been formed to put an end to her activities in the city.”

The special teams have contacted police officers from cities and states where Tashu operates to get more information about her activities.

Last month, officers of the Bandra unit of the ANC arrested one of Tashu’s carriers, Mohammad Rafique Khan, with 110gm of cocaine at Malwani. The contraband, meant for a film personality, was to be handed over to another peddler for onward delivery.

“The drug is never handed over directly to the final party,” said one police officer. “Tashu takes orders on the phone and tells the designated carrier to collect the drug from one of her suppliers and deliver it at some place in the suburbs. Also, the client does not take the delivery himself. Another person is roped in to collect the drug.”

According to the ANC, Tashu has two major suppliers of cocaine. “They are foreign nationals, very active in areas like Goa, Mumbai, and Delhi. We have got details about them, too,” the ANC officer said.
