A thief who was caught by the police a few days ago, revealed during the interrogation that he, along with his two associates, had allegedly stolen 40 tonnes of iron rods worth Rs16 lakh.

Interestingly, when the police alerted the builders, they were shocked and after an inspection, they realised that the rods were indeed stolen. Later, they registered a complaint with the LT Marg police.

According to the RAK Marg police, a few days ago, they arrested one Abdul Khan on charges of theft. “During the interrogation he told the police that he was also involved in theft of 40 tonnes of iron rods from a construction site in Kalbadevi.

He also revealed that site supervisor Narayan Shelar and truck driver Mataprasad Chaube were also involved,” said a police officer. “When site engineer Vipul Shinde inspected the area, he learnt that rods were missing, and  a complaint was lodged,” said an officer from LT Marg police station.

“We have arrested Mataprasad Chaube on Tuesday and would soon take custody of Khan in this case. One of the accused was caught before the crime was registered,” said the officer.
