The Bombay high court has directed Arthur Road jail officials to take Hasan Ali Khan, accused in the multi-crore tax evasion case, to the JJ group of hospitals for a medical test on Saturday along with his previous medical records.

A vacation bench of Justice Pramod Kode and Justice Abhay Thipsay ordered the prison officials to file a compliance report when the court reopens after the vacation. Khan had moved the high court, alleging that prison authorities had not sent him for medical treatment to JJ hospital despite directions by the Supreme Court and even the special court.

Additional public prosecutor Aruna Mane informed the court that the jail officials are ready to take Khan to the hospital and provide him the requisite medical treatment.

Khan’s application stated: “A report by the prison doctor on May 2, 2011, specifically instructed that Khan be admitted to JJ hospital for treatment of his various ailments.”
