It’s been almost a week since a nine-year-old student from the Urdu-medium Sanjay Nagar Municipal School at Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, was undressed in the school toilet during recess, but education officers have sat on the issue since. They claim that since “nothing toward happened”, there is no reason to warrant any action.

Additional municipal commissioner Mohan Adtani, though, did not warm up to the idea. When asked about the incident at the education committee’s meeting on Thursday, a clueless Adtani turned to deputy education officer Dr Jivba Keluskar, who said no action was taken since “nothing untoward had happened”. The additional municipal commissioner was cheesed off that the officials had kept the issue under wraps. He also expressed his displeasure over the failure on the part of the school headmistress to file a police complaint.

Adtani directed the education officer and his deputy to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and to file a police complaint from the civic administration’s side.

After corporator Dr Ajanta Yadav, who had raised the issue, asked for an adjournment, and members demanded better security at municipal schools, the meeting was adjourned.
