After burning the midnight lamp for months, nearly 17, 11,214 students will appear for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination starting from Thursday. The examination is conducted by Maharashtra State Education for Secondary and Higher Secondary Board.

The examination will be conducted at 3,730 centres across the state, said the statement from board.

Among the total number of students, 9,46,218 are boys while 7,64,996 are girls from 20,160 schools.

The examination will be conducted with one or two day gap between two papers for each stream. Last year, environment education was divided into two parts i.e. project work and written examination. Forty marks are allotted to project work and 60 for the written examination.

The multiple question paper system will be followed and about 30% of the questions based on textbooks will be different in each question paper in the multiple question paper set.

Students with dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia will be allowed to use calculators for subjects such as mathematics, book keeping and accountancy. However, they will not be allowed to use calculators in mobile phones.

With stringent norms to check irregularities during the examination, 245 flying squads (seven for each district) have been appointed. Similarly, education officers and government officers will pay surprise visits to the examination centres. Likewise, CCTV cameras will also be installed at sensitive centres, said the statement issued from the board.

State board chairman Sarjerao Jadhav has conveyed his best wishes to the students appearing for the examination. In his message he said, “I have a firm belief that the students will not use any unfair means to write the examination. They will also discourage a person who is using unfair means.’’ He also said in his message that students should take advantage of helplines in case of any problem.
