SNDT University, Juhu is willing to go to any lengths to prepare for imminent visit of the law minister Veerappa Moily, on January 22, so much so that the college has moved one of its departments to an old dilapidated building as it stood in its way.

The college wanted the minister to see that they have an entire building dedicated to law faculty. But in reality, the building also housed the educational technology department. So the department has now been banished to the old building.

“If they did not want the department to be visible, they could have just removed the board outside the department. But they have moved the entire department just so that the building looks like it only houses law classes,” said a source at the university.

Further the new premises for the department belong to an old dilapidated structure which is dangerous for the students, the source added.

“Our children’s lives are at stake here. The structure has weak walls and is in shambles,” the source added.

The department is spread over five rooms and has several computers (over 20). But in the new location, the department has only been given two to three rooms.

“We do not have enough space to install all of these computers. How can our students learn technology without computers,” said the source.

Moreover, the department has now been permanently shifted to this location and will not be allowed back to its old premises. “Just to impress a minister, they have evacuated us. This speaks poorly of the university authorities,” the source added.
