Talking on their mobile phones while crossing railway tracks proved fatal for two Dombivli-based sisters, Jayshree, 25, and her younger sister Soni, 23, who were run over by a speeding local at Patripool between Kalyan and Thakurli railway stations on Thursday night.

However, their bodies were identified only on Friday evening when their father, Jaysingh Vijurekar came to Vishnu Nagar police station in Dombivli to lodge a missing complaint. After collecting the descriptions of the missing girls, the Vishnu Nagar police told Vijurekar that two girls with similar descriptions had met with an accident and their bodies were kept in the Dombivli civic hospital.

Vijurkar works with Air India and reportedly told the police that his wife Anita was a paralytic patient. His daughters left home at 7.30 pm on Thursday and said they would be back after vising a temple at Dombivli (west) and Dattatray temple at Thakurli (east). When they did not return he tried calling them but their mobile phones were switched off.  The sisters met with the accident at around 8.15pm on Thursday. A guard of an Asangaon-Mumbai CST fast local informed the Dombivli station master that two girls had been knocked down by their train at Patripool. The railway police found their wallets and mobile phones crushed to pieces.

It was very difficult to identify their bodies and the police sent their photographs and other details to Kalyan, Dombivli and other neighbouring police stations, said senior police inspector Shivajirao Bagal of Dombivli railway police station.
