Showers cool down sweaty Mumbai

The city got a respite from the afternoon heat as it got light rains on Friday evening and mercury dipped by two degree Celsius — 29.5 degree Celsius (Colaba) and 30.8 (Santa Cruz).

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says the city might receive moderate rainfall in the next few days.

Colaba and Santa Cruz recorded 0.2mm and 0.6mm rainfall respectively till 8.30pm on Friday. The BMC disaster management cell recorded 9.2mm rainfall in the city, 9.8mm in western suburbs and 8.6mm in eastern suburbs till 8pm on Friday. It said F-North (Matunga, Kings Circle) received 40mm, Wadala 25mm, Dadar 24mm and Kandivli 20mm rainfall till 8pm.

IMD officials said that Mumbai will receive moderate showers for the next few days. “We are not expecting much rainfall now as the existing systems has become weak,” said VK Rajeev, IMD director. The city and suburbs had also received good rainfall between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning with Colaba recording 2.5mm and Santa Cruz recording 48mm rainfall.Meanwhile, the IMD forecast that one or two spells of rain or thundershower might occur in the city and the suburbs in the next two days.Later, the IMD update said that conditions are becoming favorable for the withdrawal of southwest monsoon around October 8 from parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Bihar.
