Shiv Sena's HS Patil elected Thane mayor

The Shiv Sena-BJP combine retained its hold over the Thane Municipal Corporation when it got its nominee elected as the mayor of Thane.

The Shiv Sena-BJP combine on Tuesday retained its hold over the Thane Municipal Corporation when it got its nominee HS Patil elected as the mayor of Thane.

Patil polled 73 votes while his only rival Nazeeb Mulla of NCP polled only 54 votes.

In the 130 member house, three members of the Congress were not present. They were Rajan Kine, Anita Kine and Sakhila Qureshi.

The Shiv Sena managed to get 73 votes of which 53 were from its own corporators, 8 from BJP, RPI 1, Ind 2 , BSP 2 and MNS' 7 votes. MNS had already announced its decision to vote the Sena/BJP nominees.

In the election for the deputy mayor, Milind Patankar of the BJP got elected defeating his only rival Bharat Chavan of the NCP by the same margin of votes.

Suhasini Lokhande of the BJP who had gone missing since the last 12 days appeared today and voted in favour of shiv sena candidate.
