Underworld gangsters Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Rashid Malabari have revealed that they were part of a five-member crack team formed by Chhota Shakeel to eliminate major rivals on foreign land.

They carried out the killings for Dawood Ibrahim also, the police said. Even more startling was their revelation that the arms and ammunition used for these killings were obtained from mafia organisations in foreign countries, the police said.

Bhullar and Malabari are in the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch. Bhullar was recently extradited from Bangkok. Malabari was handed over to the Crime Branch by the Mangalore police on Sunday night.

“Bhullar and Malabari were part of a team that shot at Chhota Rajan in Bangkok and killed his aide Balu Dokre in Kuala Lumpur,” joint commissioner of police (crime) Rakesh Maria said on Monday. “Bhullar had also opened fire at a Hyderabad native Syed Rehman in Bangkok in 2003. When we grilled Bhullar, he revealed that Rehman was none other than gangster Ejaz Lakdawala. Shakeel had asked him to kill Lakdawala,” Maria said.

Lakdawala was staying in Bangkok on a fake passport obtained from Hyderabad, Maria said. After the attempt on his life, he slipped from Bangkok. “Since there was no witness or complainant in the case, Bhullar was let off by the Thailand police,” he said. “The Bangkok and Malaysian police are unaware that Bhullar and Malabari were involved in shootouts in their country. We will soon inform them.”

Bhullar and Malabari would be able to spill the beans about Shakeel’s key men and his allies, Maria said. Bhullar had joined the Shakeel gang in the late 1990s, operating from the slums near the airport area. He has two attempts to murder and a murder cases against him in Mumbai, the police said.

Malabari has been arrested for the alleged murder of Shabbir Pathan, a Rajan tipper, who was gunned down in Tilak Nagar in 1998, the police said.
