Senior citizen held for ‘rape’ in Mumbai

A senior citizen and his friend, both businessmen and residents of Lokhandwala in Andheri (West), were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 24-year-old aspiring model. Umesh Reshamwala and Sayyed Alim allegedly promised the victim, who came from Kanpur six months ago, a role in a TV serial and also a flat.  

“The accused have been charged with rape. They tried to blackmail the victim and also stopped her from filing a complaint,” Amitabh Gupta, additional commissioner of police (West region), said.

Reshamwala and Alim have been remanded in police custody till February 19.  Pradeep Shetty, the lawyer of the accused, said his clients were innocent and it was actually they who had filed a complaint at the Oshiwara police station against the girl for blackmailing them.
