Despite the precautions taken by the state election commission, duplication of names on the voters' list has been found in the Fort area.
Ganesh Sanap of Shiv Sena and Sahu Shivkumar Harish Chandra of Congress, both contesting from ward 224in Fort have been accused of misguiding the election office as their names appear more than twice on the list. In addition, their names appearing in the neighbouring ward's voter list too.
Chandra is registered as a voter in ward 32 at Malad as he lives there, but his name also appears in ward 226 at Colaba.
Sanap is registered as a voter in ward 224 and two locations on PD’Mello Road — one in a shanty inside St George’s Hospital and another at 20 ft Telephone Communication Centre.
Sachin Gangawane, MNS candidate from ward 224, has lodged a formal complaint with the poll authorities and the voters' registration office and asked the authorities to take cognisance of the matter.
“I have requested the authorities to disqualify Sanap and Chandra as candidates.”
But Sanap and Chandra claim they have informed the election office of the “goof-up”.
Gangawane alleged that the duo has violated the Representations of the People Act, 1950, Part-III- Electoral Rolls for Assembly Constituencies under provisions 17 by providing false information on affidavit or misrepresentation as Sanap has three identity cards in his name from one constituency and Chandra has identity cards in different constituencies.
Sanap clarified that he is not at fault and he has already informed the election office that he has sent a letter to the voter's registration office in this regard. “If it is the authority's mistake how am I to blame?” he asked.
Chandra, too, claimed that he has taken up the issue with the authorities concerned and asked them to delete his name from other electoral lists.
