The police are on the lookout for a railway constable who absconded with money and ornaments seized from criminals over 12 years ago.
The state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recently posted a lookout notice on its website for Pune Railway Police constable Prakash Vinayak Bhosale (48), who allegedly fled with the booty (mudhamal) amounting to Rs1.68 lakh in 1998.
A first information report was lodged at the railway police station accusing Bhosale of misappropriating Rs1,68,989 in cash and gold and silver jewellery in 1998.
Bhosale is from Karkhel in Baramati. In Pune, he stayed at Krishnanagar Police Vasahat in Chinchwad. He was deployed at the Pune Railway station in 1997. The money and goods seized during investigation were kept under his supervision.
Bhosale went missing on August 15, 1998. His wife Shalini lodged a missing person case with the railway police on August 20, 1998. However, the police authorities came to know about the misappropriation later.
A court declared him an absconder in 2005. His photograph and profile have been put up on the CID website.
