The Maharashtra state home minister, RR Patil, will hold a meeting in Pune to resolve the traffic problems on February 28.

Congress MLC, Mohan Joshi, who sought Patil’s intervention on the issue, revealed this to the media on Sunday.

He had drawn Patil’s attention to Pune’s worsening traffic conditions during the winter session of the legislative assembly in Nagpur. “While answering a question in the assembly, Patil promised me that the state government will take the initiative to look into the traffic situation in Pune and find a permanent solution,” he said.

“Later, I kept following up the promise given by Patil and got the date fixed for holding the meeting with the authorities concerned in the city,” Joshi said.

Joshi said Pune is plagued by problems pertaining to traffic. “The number of vehicles is increasing every year. Many a times, drivers are caught in traffic snarls, which is wastage of time. There are many options like strengthening public transport, metro rail project, new flyovers and subways to curb the traffic problem,” Joshi said.
