Alleging non-implementation of a Bombay high court order to develop one-third of the transit camp plot into a municipal market and a sewerage pumping station, General Arun Kumar Vaidya Nagar Rahavasi Sangh (AKVNRS) plans to file a contempt petition against Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada).

The high court passed an order on September 7, 2006, on a petition filed by Bandra Reclamation based AKVNRS giving Mhada two years to develop plots reserved under the development plan.

“Mhada regularised an unauthorised structure on the land shown for redevelopment of transit camp. The area encroached upon had been reserved for a municipal market,” said AKVNRS secretary Vidya Vaidya.

AKVNRS chairman Vilas Parulekar said, “Neither the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) nor Mhada officials are willing to co-operate due to intervention from the local MLA. We need the sewerage pumping station to address our flooding issues.”

The area of plot earmarked in the plan for sewerage pumping station is 02.4 hectares and municipal market is 0.50 hectares, which is one-third area of the pumping station.
