The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now decided to take stringent action against the project affected people (PAP), who are reluctant to shift to the alternative accommodation provided by the BMC. If the PAP are not willing to leave their own houses then the BMC will pay them for their houses as per the ready reckoner rate.

Many projects are getting delayed due to the opposition from the families to leave their own houses, which are becoming obstacle for the projects.

The BMC offers alternative houses for the families but the families are not willing to leave the original place. The BMC don’t have alternate accommodation in the vicinity of the same area so these people have to go far away from the place with in the city limits.

“The state has provided 4,000 houses to the civic body for the PAP. But these people are not going to new places and the project gets affected,” said a senior civic official.

“The civic body has started BRIMSTOWAD project, where the BMC is widening major nullah. The central government is also funding this project. The deadline for this is December 2011. If the civic body fails to meet the deadline the central government would not give further funds,” said the officer.

“Now the BMC has decided that if the PAP do not want to leave their houses then the civic body will pay them as per ready reckoner rate and take their homes,” the official added.
