Rash driving claims 5 more lives in Pune

Rash driving claimed the lives of five people in the city. Three of the victims, who were driving two-wheelers, wore helmets.

A speeding Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus hit Guruwandirsingh Pothiwal (22) near Yamaha showroom on MG Road on Tuesday noon.

Pothiwal, a chartered accountant student, was driving a motorcycle when the PMPML bus rammed into the two-wheeler and he came under its rear wheels and died on the spot. He was not wearing a helmet. The police are yet to arrest the errant bus driver.
On Monday afternoon, one person was killed and two sustained serious injuries after the motorcycle on which the trio was travelling was hit  by a speeding truck near  Lokmanya Hospital in
Chinchwad.

The victim has been identified as Babu Mahadev Basant and the injured are Krushna Mariappa Bhandari and Avinash Kamble.
Truck driver Kalyan Raghunath Gaikwad of Satara has been arrested.

The police said the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the two-wheeler. The trio was rushed to a nearby hospital, but Basant was declared brought dead.

Abhijit Subhash Surwase (24) was killed on June 12 after his motorcycle was hit by a speeding Tempo in Akurdi. Popat Sahebrao Adahav (35) lost his life after the tempo in which he was travelling was hit by a speeding car in Chinchwad on Sunday.

Mangal Babu Chavan (25) succumbed to injuries, sustained in a mishap on June 2, on Tuesday. She was hit by a speeding autorickshaw on Shankarseth Road. According to the police, the victim, along with her mother and sister, was walking on the footpath when the autorickshaw coming from the wrong side, hit her. She was shifted to Sassoon General Hospital, where she died on Tuesday.
