Railway protection force (RPF) personnel have begun public awareness programmes at major locations between Churchgate and Virar stations to curb trespassing on railway tracks.
“They were posted at Nalasopara, Kandivli and Jogeshwari level-crossings, and at Khar and Dadar, which see an increase in the number of trespassers during the morning and evening peak hours,” said Rajendra Rupnawar, senior divisional security commissioner, RPF, Western Railway.
Elaborating on the drive, he said, “They sealed the area with a ribbon to prevent the public from crossing railway lines. The RPF personnel posted there also advised people against trespassing and asked them to use the foot overbridge instead.” The personnel also put up banners at several locations to spread the message.
Rupnawar clarified that the RPF’s intention is not to book offenders, but to create awareness about how dangerous it is cross railway tracks. He added that the awareness drive will continue for a few more days.
