Defying the school diktat, the Sinhgad Springdale School Parents’ Association purchased school kits for their children from shops not authorised by the school management. The association claimed that they purchased the articles at competitive rates.

Every year, before the new academic session starts, parents have to buy school gear from the shops directed by the school management only. But the parents’ association collectively purchased the articles from shops of their choice and managed to save around Rs1,200 per child.

The kit includes textbooks, notebooks, shoes, uniforms and stationery for standard I to IX.

Speaking to DNA, Balkrushna Phate, who actively participated in organising the parents for the cause said, “Initially we were not given the list of required school kit by the school authority, but we were provided with the list following the direction by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) education board.”

“After market research we came to know that the school-appointed shops were charging more than the normal rate, so we decided to find sources on our own,” Phate said.
