The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started an enquiry against two of its officers for allegedly permitting the shooting of a movie starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the PL Deshpande Garden on Sinhagad Road.

Additional municipal commissioner Naresh Zurmure told DNA that when he was informed about the request to allow shooting of the film in the garden, he had clearly denied permission.

“Yet, the shooting was allowed. There would be inquiry against two officers — including deputy commissioner Bhanudas Mane and an assistant garden superintendent — for granting permission,’’ Zurmure said.

He said he would issue notices to these two officers and action would be taken after getting a reply. He also promised to find out whether any damage was caused to the garden during the shooting.

The issue was raised during the standing committee meeting of the civic body on Tuesday. Shooting of the film Bodyguard took place on Saturday and Sunday and citizens were denied entry into the garden during the period.

The garden, named after great Marathi litterateur, PL Deshpande, is Pune Okayama Friendship Garden (POFG) developed in 2003 with assistance from Japan.

The decision to permit the shooting has become a serious issue in view of the fact that the statue of Dadoji Konddev, the teacher of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has been lodged in the garden after it was removed from Lal Mahal amidst controversy.

Members of the Friends of Japan, who regularly visit the park, alleged that damage has been done to the park during the shooting.

However, a team member of the production house who did not wished to be named said,  “We have done everything legally. We have all legal documents and the government receipts. We have paid Rs10,000 per day for shooting. If they say that we have damaged something, they would not have let us leave so easily.’’
