Pune cops fined for absence from court

The district and additional sessions judge, VK Shewale, on Thursday slapped a fine of Rs5,000 and Rs1,000 on the police inspectors of Kothrud and Dehu Road police station respectively for being absent in court during hearings in two different cases.

The district and additional sessions judge, VK Shewale, on Thursday slapped a fine of Rs5,000 and Rs1,000 on the police inspectors of Kothrud and Dehu Road police station respectively for being absent in court during hearings in two different cases.

Those fined also include the additional public prosecutor and court duty constable. The judge had directed the police inspectors to be present in court on July 7 with their witnesses.

Woman commits suicide
A 25-year-old married woman allegedly committed suicide on Thursday near Deccan College in Yerawada by consuming acid. The incident came to light when passers by informed the Yerawada police station.

Senior inspector Deepak Sawant of Yerawada police station said, “We recovered a suicide note written in Marathi from the spot which mentions her name as Sandya Gaikar. The lady stated that she was committing suicide voluntarily. We are probing the case.”

Senior citizen robbed
An unidentified person allegedly snatched away a gold chain, estimated to be worth Rs5,000, of a senior citizen who was on her morning walk on Thursday morning near Natasha Enclave on NIBM Road in Kondhwa.  

Anupama Vishnu Kulkarni (66), a resident of Surashree Woods on NIBM Road, lodged a first information report at Kondhwa police station on Wednesday. Police inspector (crime) Ajay Kadam is investigating the case.

Murder suspect arrested
The crime branch of Pune police arrested a Nepali, Som Bahadur Tamang, in Nashik in connection with the murder of a Nepali woman, Sanju Sangram Tamang (30) on Wednesday. Sanju was found murdered in an apartment on Handewadi Road on June 3.

Inspector Sunil Pawar said, “Som lived on Bajirao Road and worked in a pharmacy. He had planned to rob Sukhbahadur Jitbahadur Tamang’s flat in Ganga Village society on Handewadi Road a month ago. When he attempted to do so on July 3, the maid stopped him and was killed.”
