The court of judicial magistrate (first class), SB Deore, on Wednesday admitted a case of attempt to murder and attempt to shield a traffic constable involved in extortion, against deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Vishwas Pandhare, senior police inspector of Faraskhana Venkat Gangalwad and traffic constable Eknath Sawant.

The case was admitted after Bhanudas Sahebrao Tambe (25) of Chandannagar filed a criminal complaint in the court. He also requested the court to conduct a magisterial enquiry as the police might not investigate the case properly.

On Monday, the Faraskhana police arrested the physically challenged Bhanudas and his brother, Hrishikesh, and registered a non-cognisable offence against constable Sawant (27).

As per the complaint, the Tambe brothers were travelling on a motorcycle when Sawant them stopped them and asked for a driving licence. Despite producing the document, Sawant asked them to pay a fine of Rs700 for using a fancy number plate.

Bhanudas told Sawant that the number plate was not fancy and that he only had Rs50 on him. This angered Sawant and he allegedly hit Bhanudas, who is 60% handicapped, on the head. Hrishikesh was also beaten up.

Bhanudas approached inspector Gangalwad at Faraskhana police station. But Gangalwad allegedly used abusive language with Tambe’s mother and didn’t register their complaint, allegedly on instructions of DCP Pandhare. The next date of hearing for the case is July 16.

Assault bid on traffic constable
The Sahakarnagar police booked a shoe shop owner, Omprakash Komawat, on Tuesday night for allegedly abusing and trying to attack Yeshwant Subhash Golande, a traffic constable attached with Bharati Vidyapeeth traffic division.

According to the police, on Tuesday night, Golande was monitoring the traffic on the Pune-Satara road. At around 8.30 pm, Komawat was coming from Katraj side and was speaking on his cellphone. When he reached Shardha Chowk, Golande cautioned him against a bus coming from the opposite side.

Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Vishwas Pandhare said Komawat, who was in an inebriated condition, came back to the chowk and tried to hit the constable with a rock. According to the police, Komawat then tore his clothes and alleged that he was assaulted by the police.

Pandhare said, “The witnesses told us that Komawat himself tore his clothes and was trying to assault the constable.”
