The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has categorically denied issuing any demolition order to DB Realty regarding its controversial construction project at Survey No 191(A) in Yerawada.

Responding to queries from DNA, the offices of additional city engineer, Vivek Kharwadkar and the municipal commissioner, Mahesh

Zagade, denied issuing any such order for the five-star hotel construction undertaken by the company in Yerawada.
Kharwadkar’s response was sought following a report in the April 26 issue of the news magazine, India Today, that Zagade had issued a demolition order “on DB Realty for violating norms in its five star hotel project in Yerawada.”

The report also stated that Zagade had blamed Pawar “for shunting him out of the city” after he issued the demolition order.
While Zagade is currently stationed in Mussoorie for training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, his
office in Pune and Kharwadkar denied having issued any such order.

DB Realty’s massive construction at S No 191(A) in Yerawada grabbed attention following the arrest of the company’s then managing director, Shahid Balwa, in the 2G spectrum scam.
Soon after Balwa’s arrest, the leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra legislative assembly, Eknath Khadse, alleged close links between Balwa and Union agriculture minister, Sharad Pawar.

Khadse also demanded a probe into DB Realty’s Yerawada property while pointing out that the tainted company shared the 19-acre land on S No 191(A) with Panchshil Realty’s Panchshil Tech Park One project, which has Pawar’s daughter, Supriya Sule, as an investor.

After undertaking investigations and obtaining documents under the Right To Information (RTI) Act, 2005, DNA in its report on April 15 ‘Govt lifted land reservation to favour DB Reality’, revealed how the PMC and the state government had lifted reservations for a
school, hospital and playground to favour the DB Realty project.
