Prosecution to file appeal in TISS gangrape case

The prosecution in the case of gangrape a of a 23-year-old US national, is all set to file an appeal in the Bombay high court challenging the acquittal of the six youngsters.

On October 6, a sessions court had acquitted the six boys due to lack of evidence after observing that the victim's statement is not "wholly reliable".

"We have sent the appeal to the law and judiciary department last week, who will then forward it to the high court after verification," a police official said.

According to the police, the six accused had on April 12 last year taken the victim, a student of the Tata Institute of Social Science, to the house of one of the accused in suburban Andheri and allegedly gang raped her.

The six accused are - Vinamra Soni, Harshvardharn Yadav, Jaskaran Singh Bullar, Anish Borkatki, Dev Colabawala and Kundanraj Bodgohai.

The sessions court had while acquitting the six disbelieved the victim's statement and remarked that there was an "absence of satisfactory and supporting" evidence to corroborate the victim's claims.
