Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gopinath Munde, in a press conference, demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigate the allegations made against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar by Congress leader and minister for industries Narayan Rane.
In the city for two days’ campaigning for the mega alliance of BJP-Shiv Sena-Republican Party (A), Munde was speaking to the media on Monday morning.
Taking note of Rane’s allegations that despite the NCP handling both the deputy chief ministership and the home department, it had failed to maintain law and order in the city, Munde said the allegations are serious and have to be investigated.
“If opposition parties had levelled allegations against Ajit Pawar, things would have been different. But here Rane, a former chief minister, accused Pawar of corruption in the state cooperative bank and deteriorated law and order situation, then cognisance must be taken,” he said.
Blaming Ajit Pawar for making Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank a loss- making body leading to dissolution of board of directors, Munde said, “Corruption was rampant in thebank due to Ajit Pawar as the cooperative organisations working under him withdrew 4,000 crore rupees after the action was taken on the board.”
