Noted film director-producer Prakash Jha on Tuesday registered a case with the Amboli police complaining that he received extortion calls and e-mails from two New York-based Non-Resident Indians (NRI), demanding Rs3 crore on October 5.

Police records state that with the two accused Pramod Bhanti, 62, and Dr Devendra Kumar Singh, 70, had started a film production company in New York in 2004. The trio had reportedly planned to make a film titled, Farewell Himalaya, scripted and directed by Jha for which he was paid an advance of 50,000US$. The project did not materialise and eventually, Jha was asked to return the advance amount.

Jha said that he had returned the money to Bhanti’s relatives in India. He claimed that the duo filed a case in a NY court for not honouring his commitment.
