With the onset of the monsoon, potholes have come up on several roads in Pimpri-Chinchwad, causing hardships for commuters and residents. DNA identified 10 such spots in Bhosari, Akurdi and Chinchwad.
Vijay Kambhkar, a sales executive who resides in Bhosari, wondered why the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has failed to maintain the roads.
“PCMC is spending huge amounts of money to build flyovers. But why can’t it maintain roads. Travelling on roads filled with potholes creates problems,” he said.
In Akurdi area, Sunita Ovhal, a government employee, complained that huge potholes on the road stretch from Khandobamala Chowk in Akurdi to Chapekar Chowk in Chinchwadgaon slow down traffic. “I take almost double the time to reach my destination. The roads are dangerous when the potholes are filled with rainwater,” she said.
Sukumar Mahe, a businessman, who travels by PMPML bus said it’s a bumpy ride for commuters.
“I sometimes fear that the bus could overturn while crossing the potholes,” he said, adding that travelling from Chinchwadgaon to Dange Chowk is a horrible experience. The PCMC spokesperson, Dilip Kudale, said the civic chief, Ashish Sharma has directed engineers of all wards to ensure that the road repairs are undertaken.
According to Kudale, the filling up work would start on Monday so that the city is free of potholes.
