Pimpri-Chinchwad residents to run for cause

More than 30,000 people from all walks of life will run in a half-marathon organised by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Marathon Foundation to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS on February 20.

President of the foundation, Ganesh Langote, said this is the second time the industrial township has organised a half-marathon. The first such marathon had seen more than 7,000 people participating in the event.

Langote approached various schools, colleges, industrial institutions and NGOs to participate in this event. The chief sponsor of the event is Kohinoor Group’s Krishnakumar Goyal.

The competition is divided into two categories, men and women, which are further classified into seven segments. In the open category for both men and women, runners will have to cover a distance of 21km.

Winners will get a prize of Rs15,000, while first and second runners-up will be awarded Rs7,000 and Rs4,000 respectively.
In the under-18 category, boys have to cover a distance of 8km, while girls have to run 6km and the first prize is Rs8,000 and Rs4,000 respectively.

For participants under the age of 16, boys will have to run 5km, while the distance for girls is 4km. The winner will receive prize money of Rs2,500.

In the age group of 14, the distance to be covered by boys is 4 km and the first, second and third prizes are Rs3,000, Rs2,500 and Rs1,800 respectively. For girls in the same segment, the distance is 3 km and the prizes are Rs2,500, Rs1,800 and Rs1,500 respectively.

In the 2km charity run for both men and women, the winner will be given a prize of Rs2,000 and the runners-up will get prizes of R1,800 and Rs1,500. In the senior citizen category, the distance to be covered is 1km and first prize is Rs3,000 while the runners-up will get Rs2,000 and Rs1,500.
