A woman’s health determines the health of her family. Acknowledging this fact, the country’s fast developing field of mobile health care is now beginning to address specific health concerns of the fairer sex.

MObq, a commercial health care service over mobile devices which launched in June, has focused on women's health in collaboration with the International Institute For Training & Research In Reproductive Health (IIRRH) on the Airtel network.

“We chose women as our primary target audience because they are the ‘health- keepers’ of the family. Also, the persona of Indian women is undergoing a rapid change — there is increasing focus on health, self-care and a positive intent to act on them,” said Dr Tarun Ramole, head MObq, BioQuest Solutions.

While new mothers can brush up on breastfeeding techniques and learn how to deal with post-pregnancy weight gain and stretch marks, young women are sent relevant information on pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), body image issues as well as cosmetic issues such as facial hair.

Women's sexual health topics range from sexual hygiene, safe sex, contraception methods and pain during sex. “We raise awareness about disorders such as polycystic ovary disease (PCOD) and also about certain issues like facial hair which may not be just a cosmetic issue but can be a health issue too,” adds Dr Ramole.

“We are keen to cover all aspects of health, including mental health. So in the past, we have discussed issues such as peer pressure, strain in parental relations and baby blues among new mothers,” says Dr Ramole, adding that MObq will soon be launching services on men's health, child health, and chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases and cancer.
