Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Sunday blamed the heavy influx of migrants for the deterioration of health and education in the city. Thackeray blasted the state government for showing apathy towards people of the state.

“Mumbai is down with malaria. The condition of this city is pathetic as it is full of garbage and sewage. The slums are filled with labourers from outside, who keep coming in without any rest. They are mainly responsible for whole situation,” Thackeray said, speaking at the programme ‘Education 2020’ organised by the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS).

“The Tamil Nadu government has decided to teach engineering in Tamil, but our state government can’t even make the school syllabus in Marathi. I am not a regional chauvinist, but I do oppose outsiders’ attack on my language,” said Thackeray. “All MNVS activist should stand up against the education mafia in the state.

We must show them our strength, if anyone refuses to enroll Marathi students. These private institutes are earning money by selling their college seats to rich students from other states.”

Other members of the discussion panel at the event asked the government to take immediate steps to improve the education system so as to reach the goal of being a developed nation till 2020, as envisioned by former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
