The revelation that the air-conditioner fixed in Command hospital in May by dismissed vendor Messrs Sashi Enterprises was not accounted for, has added a new twist to the ongoing Command hospital controversy.

The hospital commandant also did not inform the Pune  sub area commander of the CBI raids on the hospital on December 3 for seven hours.

Pune sub area commander, Brigadier Rajbir Singh said, “The CBI team reached the hospital at 12.45pm on December 3. The commandant cooperated with the team, but I was informed about the raid only at 8pm that night.”

He made these revelations while speaking to the media on Wednesday. He admitted that as per prescribed norms, no gift items could be accepted from any vendor.

Singh said that every gift received at the hospital was accounted for and documented. According to Singh, the one-tonne, air-conditioner had been installed in the vendors’ waiting room by Messrs Sashi Enterprises in May willingly. “The vendor installed the air conditioner of his own accord for the comfort of fellow vendors. Our officers had asked him for the bill, to document the same, but it was never presented,” Singh said. “The firm had been banned by the hospital on September 14 for supplying spurious drugs.”

The hospital has been in the news ever since the CBI Pune team carried out a surprise raid on the hospital’s medical store, following a compliant from the firm.

The firm had accused officers at the hospital of demanding bribes for orders. It has also moved the Pune district court in this matter.

The CBI Pune have filed an FIR against the commandant Major General Surendra Panwar  for refusing to sign the CBI panchanama and disallowing the team from carrying out work.

CBI’s anti-corruption bureau (ACB), superintendent of police, Vidya Kulkarni said that investigations into the hospital case had begun.

Singh said, the firm’s claims of being the lowest bidder, forced to supply a computer, a facsimile machine and the air-conditioner had been proved false.
