Supply of flavoured milk in civic run schools continues to be in a limbo even after the three member committee submits its findings.

The committee headed by director of medical health Dr Sanjay Oak has submitted its report and no decision has been taken so far. The committee was formed after four incidences of food poisoning and vomiting were reported last year.

Additional municipal commissioner Mohan Adtani stated that the civic body is unable to decide if the milk supply has to be resumed. “The report has been submitted but several parameters have not been addressed. We are still contemplating whether the flavoured milk supplied was fit for consumption,” said Adtani.

The scheme to provide flavoured milk for free to students studying in civic schools has been receiving severe flak. In last year alone over 60 students suffered food poisoning due to the flavoured milk.

Nonetheless the worrisome fact for the civic body is fund allocation of Rs 110 crore for flavoured milk for the ensuing year.

After the scheme was scrapped, the funds were used to screen films, said education committee chairman Rukmini Kharatmal.  However, Adtani says that the funds will be consumed for flavoured milk only, after certain parameters for checking the quality of the milk are in place.
