The in-laws of Nidhi Gupta, who killed her two children and committed suicide last week, are absconding since Friday night after her father Bimal Jalan filed complaint against them for abetting suicide and demanding dowry.

Surprisingly, despite a police team being deployed at the Guptas’ residence to keep a watch on them, the accused mentioned in the complaint managed to sneak out.

Senior inspector Vinayak Kakade of the Dindoshi police station said, “The case was registered against Nidhi’s in-laws, including her husband Pawan, on Friday night. Since then, the Gupta family has been missing from its residence. We suspect that they learnt that a complaint was being filed against them, and so they left the house.”

When DNA asked how the family managed to escape despite police deployment at the residence, investigating officer SN Shinde replied, “It could be possible that the family managed to sneak out when the police team left for patrolling.”

When this reporter visited the Gupta residence on Sunday, a few relatives were present. “We, too, have come here to meet them, but they are not there,” said a relative.

“The family is not to be seen anywhere since Saturday morning. The police have been camping near the building since the suicide took place,” said a security guard at the building. Nidhi had killed herself on Tuesday by jumping off the 19th floor of Sahyadri housing complex after first throwing her kids.
