At the 13th All India Urdu Kitab Mela organised by NCPUL, in association with Anjuman-i-Islam at Saboo Siddik Polytechnic, Byculla, they asked the ministry of human resources development to start vocational training courses in Urdu.
Community felt that a lack of proficiency in other languages such as English was the reason why the Muslim youth found it difficult to compete in the job market.
Mohammad Hariz, a businessman, said, “I studied in an Urdu school and when I entered junior college, it was difficult to understand English. Lakhs of student face the same problem. The ministry must promote English medium education for everyone so that we can also benefit.”
Naseem Ahmad, principal publication officer of NCPUL, said: “We know that job markets are tough. We have requested HRD minister Kapil Sibal to start vocational courses in Urdu language so that these students get better job placement. A committee has been formed to finalise the work. We may soon get such training institutes at Varanasi for carpet industry, Moradabad for brass work, Aligarh for lock-key industry and in Bhiwandi for textile industry.”
The council is publishing new editions of Unani medicine books and 100 such books are expected to be out in the next three months.
