Mumbai to get 1,100 more radio cabs in five days

By the month-end, 1,100 new radio taxis will ply in the city.

Private radio cab operator  SMS Taxi Cabs, also known as Tab Cabs, plans to introduce 1,100 cars in its fleet by March 31.

“Currently, we have 587 radio cabs. With the additional vehicles, we will have a 1,500-strong fleet. By December, we will have reached the figure of 4,000, “ said Prasenjit Bagchi, CMO, SMS Taxi Cabs.

This will be the largest-ever addition of vehicles in the history of the Mumbai’s radio taxi industry, in such short time.

For commuters, this means more luxury taxis will be available in Mumbai, which has been witnessing an acute shortage of radio taxis due to Meru’s strike.

The five private operators run a total of 3,200 radio cabs in the city, but only 2,200 run on the roads every day.

The remaining 1,000 are kept off the roads either for maintenance work or because there is a shortage of drivers.
