The Mumbai fire brigade will be felicitated with the 'Hero to Animals' award by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), India for rescuing a kitten in suburban Sion.
Last week, the fire brigade officials rescued a kitten, stuck in the hollow of a tree in Champaklal Industrial Estate in Sion.
"Six members of the crew worked diligently, cutting holes into the tree and trying to reach the kitten for more than three hours. The fire brigade will receive a 'Hero to Animals' award from PETA," PETA India chief functionary Poorva Joshipura said.
The fire brigade will receive a framed certificate and a letter of appreciation.
"Through sheer persistence and determination, the fire brigade officials helped this kitten escape a dangerous situation that could have led to injury or death. We hope this will inspire others to intervene when they see an animal in distress," Joshipura said.
Others who have received the PETA's 'Hero to Animals' award include anchor Cyrus Broacha for refusing to ride a bull while he was a contestant in TV reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi 3, and actresses Sadaa Sayed, for stopping to help a puppy in trouble, and Zarine Khan for rescuing a cat.
