The mother of a bride created havoc at a marriage reception hall at Dadar as she was reportedly against the marriage.

Vandana Ghodge, 45, barged into the hall uninvited and attacked the relatives of the groom before injuring herself with a sharp object.

According to the police, Manoj Sonawane, 25, a resident of Chembur married Deepa Ghodge, 22, a resident of Sanjay Gandhi Nagar in court on August 31.

On November 15, the reception was held at Manav Sewa Sadan Hall in Dadar (East).  However, Deepa’s family was not invited. Around 7.30pm, Deepa’s mother, aunt Suman Garud, 45, and brother Ganesh, 28, turned up at the reception.

“They fought with the Sonawane family members. Vandana attacked four of them with a blade. She then used the same blade and injured her hands and neck,” said a police officer of Bhoiwada police station.

Ganesh and Suman have been arrested. “Vandana has been booked on charges of assault and attempt to commit suicide. She is in hospital and will be arrested after discharge,” said the officer.
