“God Forbid! If we ever have a dispute due to monetary reasons,” said Rabbi Nachman Holtzberg, father of Rabbi Gabriel Holtzberg.

Terrorists at the Chabad House killed Holtzberg and his pregnant wife on November 26, 2008.

Nachman and his wife, Frieda, were in the city on Wednesday to pay their tributes to the victims of the terrorist attack.

On Thursday, they will attend a court hearing in connection with a dispute over
the rebuilding rights of the Chabad House.

At present, the house is in possession of the Receiver of the Bombay high court because of a case filed by the Chabad Lubavitch movement against the parents and the local caretaker.

There were reports in the media that the family had filed a case of embezzlement against the Chabad movement. The Holtzberg couple, however, denied it on Wednesday.

The dispute, said Nachman, was not due to monetary reasons. Through a translator, Aimee Ginsburg, he said, “There was no fight between the two sides. But there were certain differences that needed to be settled in a legal way. Brothers sometimes do not know how to settle things and so such a situation arises.”

The Holtzberg couple did not want to get into the details of the case. They refused to comment on the ownership and the trusteeship as well. “The problem was of the ‘vision’ and the ‘will’ from both sides,” Ginsburg said.

“While we wanted the place to serve people by conducting weddings, holding religious classes, offering food and a resting place to people, the other side wanted it more to be like a memorial. No one feels there is a fight between us.

“Everything was moving smoothly. All of us wanted the place to reopen at the earliest. We had some differences; we are trying to sort it out.
If the Taj can reopen why not Nariman House?”

The couple said that they did not have any differences with Rabbi Yosef Kantor appointed by the Chabad movement. They refused to comment on the case filed against Pakistan’s ISI at a Brooklyn court in the US, Nachman’s translator said their lawyer had asked them not to speak about it.
