The vice-president of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's Bhatwaadi unit Mangesh Ghadge was killed and his aide seriously injured allegedly by three persons over personal enmity in suburban Ghatkopar, police said today.

According to police, Gadge, 30, and his associate Rajaram Sakpaal, 31, were walking around Ramjee Mahanagar area last night when they saw the accused Rupesh Khopane, Nilesh Mahadik and Santosh consuming alcohol.

"Ghadge approached them and asked as to why they had abused him two days ago," said CV Zendekar, senior inspector at Ghatkopar police station.

"This led to a heated argument following which the three hit Ghadge and his aide with a blunt object. The victims sustained severe injuries on their head, abdomen and other parts of the bodies," he said.

They were rushed to nearby Rajawadi hospital where Ghadge was declared dead before admission while Sakpaal was undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, Khopane was arrested while his two aides were still at large, Zendekar said adding that there could be more persons involved in the crime and the blunt object used in the crime was yet to be traced.
