The repair and reconstruction board of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has come out with a list of 19 dangerous buildings in the island city. Interestingly, five out of these ‘very dangerous’ buildings were in the list released by the board last year.

The repair and reconstruction board does a survey every year before monsoon to take a count of dangerous or dilapidated buildings.

There are approximately 19,000 cessed buildings in the island city which are under the board’s radar for any kind of major structural damages.

“We have already issued eviction notices to most of these buildings and those staying in these buildings have been warned that they need to shift to transit camps as early as possible,” said a senior official of the board administration.

When asked about why the five buildings featured in the last year’s list, also listed this year, an official said that in many cases, the residents are not willing to leave the buildings and claim that they will be doing repair works before the monsoon.

“In some cases, we also carry out essential repairs. However, the buildings still remain in the ‘most dangerous’ category,” he said.

In this year’s list, as many as nine buildings are in C ward, while B ward has 3, E ward has four, A ward, F south and G north has one building respectively.
