Interested in knowing more about Wikipedia, the vital, free resource used by millions of people around the world, including in India?
Founder Jimmy Wales will be in Mumbai on Sunday to present a talk, Meet the Movement, before members of the Wikimedia community in India.
Founded in 2001, Wikipedia has served internet users as a repository of information on all kinds of topics.
'Meet the Movement' is an opportunity to learn more about how Wikipedia works and why participation by Indians is integral to Wikimedia’s global free-knowledge movement.
Wales will throw light on the history of Wikipedia and what the free-knowledge movement means to India. For instance, 75% of all schools in India have either online or offline access to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, a sister project. Additionally, 94% of page views from India are for the English Wikipedia rather than Indian languages.
These are issues that Wales will address in his talk where Wikimedia Foundation Board member Bishakha Datta will join him for a 30-minute open question-and-answer session with the audience.
