The two and half year tenure of commissioner of police Meeran Chaddha Borwankar might come to an abrupt end as the deputy chief minister and guardian minister of the district, Ajit Pawar, expressed his displeasure over the deterioration in law and order situation in the city and opined ‘may be, it is time for change’.

Pawar was speaking to media persons in Pune on the sidelines of the function organised by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to congratulate the newly elected corporators of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Referring to the spate of violence that rocked the city after the declaration of the results earlier this month, Pawar questioned why the police were not able to control it. “We have given full freedom to the police and have never interfered with their functioning. Yet, they are not able to control the spate of violence. May be, it is  time for change,’’ he said.

After the declaration of poll results, Pashan, Hadapsar and Sutarwadi were rocked by violence as defeated candidates went on a rampage. Houses were stoned and cars and two-wheelers were damaged in these areas.

Pawar also questioned the capability of Pune police for not being able to stop the violence.
