A 56-year-old man moved court after the police failed to trace his daughter and eight-year-old physically-challenged granddaughter, both of whom were missing since November 2011.

While asking them to trace the mother-daughter duo, a division bench of justices VM Kanade and PD Kode of the Bombay High Court has asked the police to “see that they are safe”.
According to Ramesh Padhyar’s habeas corpus plea, his daughter Rinku fled his Worli flat following years of marital disputes.

Stating that Rinku has probably eloped with a taxi driver of other community, Padhyar’s petition reads: “I do not wish to interfere with my daughter’s personal life, but am concerned about the granddaughter.” Pandhyar is particularly concerned about his granddaughter as she is physically disabled and needs constant care.

Rinku married one Deepesh Rami in December 2002. As Rami was not financially well off, Padhyar bought a flat for them in Poonam Apartments at Worli, where the couple was living after marriage.

Rinku gave birth to a baby girl, Heet, on March 3, 2004. However, nearly 10 years later, in April-May 2010, following differences between the two, Rami allegedly deserted his family and is untraceable since.

In the first week of November 2011, Rinku and Heet went missing. Padhyar learnt that she had eloped with a taxi driver. He even acquired the taxi number before approaching the police. However, the police are yet to make any headway.
