The Pant Nagar police arrested two people who allegedly killed a 24-year-old girl at Ghatkopar and fled. The body of the deceased, identified as Zarina Khan, was found in a decomposed state at her residence in Shastri Nagar, Ghatkopar, on September 14.

Neighbours had informed police about the foul stench coming from the victim’s house.
The body, which had several stab wounds, was found wrapped in a cloth in the bathroom. Post-mortem report revealed the woman had died due to strangulation and stabbing.

The deceased and her husband Abdul, 54, were singers in a local orchestra bar and Zarina’s elder brother Kismat, 29, also stayed with the couple.

Abdul and Kismat, who confessed to the crime, said they had killed Zarina because she allegedly had an illicit relationship with patrons visiting the bar where she worked.

They said Zarina did not “mend her ways despite warning” and then on September 9, they had a fierce argument after which they killed her and wrapped the body in a piece of cloth. They fled after dumping the body in the bathroom and locking the door from outside.

The two then went to their native place in Bengal. The city police sent a team to Bengal to arrest them, deputy commissioner of police RM Vhatkar said.

Abdul and Kismat were arrested and brought to Mumbai on Sunday.
