A Navi Mumbai resident who allegedly sent abusive emails to his estranged wife later hacked into her email accounts and deleted them so that she would not use them to implicate him.

On Saturday afternoon, the cyber crime police arrested Shivam Pandey, a resident of CBD Belapur.

The couple had got married in June last year in Lucknow but they would often quarrel over petty issues.

On February 4 this year, Pandey's wife (name withheld on request) left him and moved in with her sister at Kurla.

“On February 7, Pandey's brother visited her in Kurla to settle the matter between the couple. But her relatives told Vikram that Pandey had sent her abusive emails, which they would use against him if he troubled her again. They also told him that they would show the emails to the police, if required,” said an officer from the cyber crime police station on condition of anonymity.
But when the victim opened both her emails on February 9, she was baffled as the emails sent to her by her husband were deleted.

She then lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police.

“After investigation, we found that Pandey had accessed the victim's emails on February 9, and had deleted the emails which he had sent to her,” the officer added.

Pandey was remanded in judicial custody and was later granted bail of Rs5,000.
