A 25-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his Siddharth Nagar residence in Worli on Friday night after his father and uncle had an argument over the civic poll results.

“Vinayak Durgavle’s family told us that he was suffering from depression,” said T Telwekar, inspector of the Worli police station.
“Durgavle was very upset with the constant fights between his father and uncle over their loyalties towards to two rival political parties. On Friday, they had a huge argument after the Mumbai municipal corporation election results were announced. But, we can't say this was the only reason behind behind his decision to end his life," added Telwekar.

On Friday evening, when Durgavle’s father and uncle started fighting over the poll results, Durgavle locked himself in his room. When he did not come out of the room until 10pm, the family members got concerned and knocked on the door. On not getting any response, they opened the door and found him hanging from a hook on the ceiling.

They rushed him to Nair hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

The police have registered a case of accidental death as they do not suspect any foul play.
