Malad senior citizen murder mastermind nabbed

Accused Allwyn Fernandes had sent two of his accomplices to rob John Cardozo, who they stabbed to death after his wife witnessed the crime.

A month on, the Malad police have managed to arrest the main accused in the senior citizen murder case. Accused Allwyn Fernandes had sent two of his accomplices to rob John Cardozo, who they stabbed to death after his wife witnessed the crime.

After the wife raised a alarm, the robbers fled to the terrace of the building from where they were nabbed by alert neighbours and policemen. Cardozo was a resident of Lourde’s Colony, near Orlem church in Malad.

According to the police, Fernandes lives in Bandra (East) and his sister Carol is in a relationship with Cardozo’s son, Lionel.

Fernandes ha d visited the Cardozo family twice before and planned the heist along with his two friends, Yogesh Saroj and Suraj Kanaujia, who also live in Bandra.

“Following their plan on December 28, Kanaujia and Saroj entered the Cardozo’s house in the afternoon and tried to scare him with a knife. They met a resistant Cardozo, who caught Saroj by his throat. Kanaujia then stabbed Cardozo in order to loosen his grip on Saroj,” informed the police.

They stabbed Cardozo until his wife started screaming for help. The neighbours gathered and police were informed, who nabbed the Saroj and Kanaujia at gunpoint from the building terrace.

“During interrogation it was revealed that Fernandes, who had masterminded the plan, was waiting outside Cardozo’s building. He fled when he saw the commotion involving neighbours and the police,” said senior police inspector, Avinash Jadhav of the Malad police station. Fernandes was nabbed from Bandra.
